Winning the War
After 2 weeks of battling jetlag, clearing clothes, toys, and rubbish (with Minami working against me), I'm finally regaining control of our living space. Next is nice steam-clean of the carpet and then I get to obsess over installing a washlet and a rain shower head. But 1st I must marinate some fillets of salmon. Domestication domination!

Father's Day Torture
My father and I have had our share of conflict but there's no doubt my sense of story and love for films (namely sci fi, horror, and action) came from late nights of looking over his shoulder at the TV well after my mom had told me to go to bed. So the best way to torture my father is to post pictures of his past because he's the type to get excrutiatingly nostolgic.

Test run of Minami's Spring Show costume, thanks to her auntie Kathy.
Minami has a Spring Show coming up where she will apparently dance as a butterfly, hula dancer. I'm not sure about the combination (that's like eating sashimi with bread or something) but her teacher chose the theme. Thanks to auntie Kathy for the outfit.

Back from the lag
Today is technically Minami's 1st day back in school after a slow decompression from the Japan/Hong Kong jetlag. She marched into class like a champ. I, however, need to catch up on sleep as I've been working odd hours.

The Unthinkable
Well, I did the unthinkable - while cutting Minami's hair, the scissors caught a bit of skin on her shoulder and then chaos ensued. Luckily I was using a pair of child-safe scissors so instead of cutting the skin it actually pinched a small area - so there wasn't any blood, just a red sore. I'm sensitive to this because when I was a kid my Grandmother used to cut my hair and it was always a nerve racking experience watching her increasingly shaky hands maneuver a pair of heavy, steel shears around my eyes and ears. And then the day came when she snipped my ear and I freaked big time. It too turned out to be nothing more than a pinch but it certainly felt like she cut a steak from my ear. And that was an end of an era because I vowed that my Grandmother would never touch my hair again - and she didn't. So after a thousand apologies to Minami and some late-night "Blue's Clues," she has seemingly set aside the incident (though she's not one to forget - like me, she can be very vindictive). But on the up-tick, her hair looks fa-bu-lous!
